Fashion Forward Foods

You’re right to be wary of any food that touts itself as the “newest”. Food trends can be fickle and short lived, however, that doesn’t mean you can’t note the changing of tide and enjoy the foods while “they’re on top”. Much like fashion trends, food trends give us an opportunity to experiment and keep what could be an ordinary dish exciting and inspiring.

I mean, we’re all guilty of jumping on the smashed avo on toast bandwagon, and sprinkling chia on just about everything, and for some even switching over to the vegan trend.

So, with the ever-changing food trends, how is it possible to plan the ideal catering for all the foodies attending your event? Here are six fashion forward foods you should consider.

1. When it comes to this year’s food colour palette there’s one rule that sticks out like a sore thumb: purple. We’ve seen healthy and hearty purple vegetables pop up in winter as well as Pantone hues for a while, but this year, this shade is going to dominate our palettes.

So, go grab some cabbage, beets, potatoes, grapes, pomegranate, blood orange, and blue berries to put top of your catering list for 2018.

2. Firstly, there’s nothing new about regional cuisines, but it is becoming ever more exciting seeing a fusion dish with a creative flare and tasting the different continents. Can’t decide between Sushi or Mexican? Give the hyper-regional sushi taco a shot!

3. Beer and soft drinks aren’t the only things available on tap these days. It is an ever-growing trend to have almost any beverage available at the pull of a nozzle. From wine, to kombucha, cold brewed nitrogen coffee, or even your favourite cocktail – yup it’s there folks and a hot hit at any event this season.

> Aunty Pegs

4. We’ve all been guilty of indulging in that dirty street pie, but the up and coming street food is set at a new level. Carrying a form of sophistication and art, the Insta-worthy street food is the go to for the cocktail events. From a kebab wrapped in lavash to a refined golgappa, we’ll be having bite size flavour burst for some time to come.

5. This year, there’s a tone of dirty fast foods on the town with a more organic approach. With the ever-growing hunger for health, caterers are choosing less batter for more poke, fried veggies instead of chips, and a touch less of the processed foods. But don’t worry, cheese is going nowhere!

> Noble Experiment

6. Smoky flavours are beginning to emerge out of the realm of barbeques into vegetables, pastas, grilled meats, and even cocktails! The smoky essence adds a more savoury flavour to dishes, as well as adding warmth for foods in the cooler months.
